For everyone:

One of the skating parents of the Capital City Skating Club wrote an excellent resource for those who are new to the sport of figure skating, or those who want to know a bit more about our sport and our club. CCSC Skating Guide Handbook

Canadian Sport for Life - Long Term Athlete Development Resources
The implementation of Canada's Sport for Life - Long Term Athlete Development model is continuing across the country. As all national sport organizations work towards the development and implementation of their sport specific models, the LTAD Expert Group continues to develop some excellent generic resource material. Recently, three new resources have been placed on the Long Term Athlete Development web-site. These resources are titled "A Sport Parent's Guide", "Information for Parents" and "Recovery and Regeneration for Long Term Athlete Development".

Choreography:

For information about one of the other important pieces of a skater's package, the choreographer, please see the following document about choreography at the Capital City Skating Club.

For Pre-Juniors and Juniors:

  • Pre-Junior Skaters and their parents may be interested in more information about private lessons for further advancement. A handout was given out to some of those skaters last winter, and a copy can be downloaded from the following link.
  • New Pre-Junior and Junior skaters may feel a bit lost out on the ice with the other figure skaters the first little while after spending most of there skating time with the Canskaters. Going over some of the pointers in the FFSC Skating Guide handbook above would help them adjust more quickly and safely. Be sure to also go over the On Ice Rules with your skater.

For Intermediates and Seniors:

  • Please note the finalized version of this year's "Program Requirements" document has been posted online. It can be found under "2009-2010 Pre-Event Technical Package" in the Members Only section of the Skate Canada website.

  • Definition of a Jump Sequence: There shall be no mohawks or turns between jumps. This was discussed in much detail at the CPC Workshop in Montreal. What is means is that you cannot have any mohawks and turns (any type of turn) to connect each jump, this includes take-off entries to all jumps. Therefore, you must use a variety of other steps for example half loop salchow instead of a salchow off a mohawk or a 3 turn, also, half loop flip instead of a mohawk or 3 turn take-off entry to this jump. It will allow for some creative entries.
If you have any questions regarding the ISU changes please do not hesitate to contact Rob Davison at SC .
